DO IT (OUTSIDE)
do it (outside): Ilya Kabakov's "White Cube"
2013
MDF/Wood/Anodized Aluminum/Aluminum Cable
96 in x 96 in x 96 in
For the first New York City and outdoor variation of the Han Ulrich Obrist-conceived “do it” exhibition, I re-interpreted artist Ilya Kabakov’s “The White Cube” instructions. Rather than constructing a solid cube for spectators to scale via ladders on opposing sides, I chose to build an open cube with a dias in the center to draw viewers within the piece. By looking up towards the sun in an attempt to read the enigmatic message, viewers shared a similar interaction to the original interpretation.
